What Equipment Do You Use?

Pilates Equipment

The Mat – the most popular apparatus in Pilates, the mat is also one of the most challenging. On the mat you are required to do all the work yourself, fighting against gravity without any help from props or equipment. The mat is the foundation of all Pilates’ exercises. Mat exercises can be done at home, after you become familiar with them.

The Reformer – this piece of apparatus was designed by Joe Pilates to help the mat workout. In Center of Life Pilates the Reformer the springs, the carriage, the straps, the box and many other accessories assist you in achieving the goal of each exercise with a correct body placement.

The Cadillac – Joseph Pilates came with the idea for this apparatus while working with the war-injured. Using springs from hospitals bed, Pilates created exercises to strengthen, stretch and articulate the spine. The legs, arms and shoulders are also exercised on the Cadillac.

The High Chair - the idea for this apparatus came from a wheel chair. It works balance and alignment, strengthens the Powerhouse, legs and arms.

The Wunda Chair – the Wunda Chair is an amazing piece of apparatus! It exercises the whole body, strengthening the Powerhouse, legs, buttocks, shoulders and arms. It stretches the spine and legs. It improves balance and body control. The Wunda Chair prepares an intermediate student for a more advanced workout.

The Barrels – working out on the barrels improves breathing, strengthens and stretches the back, hips, arms and legs.

The Magic Circle – improves posture and balance. The Magic Circle strengthens shoulders, the muscles of the chest and arms. It also strengthens legs and buttocks. The Magic Circle helps you improve Powerhouse control.

The Ped-o-Pul – for a more advanced workout, the Ped-o-pul requires total body control from the Powerhouse while working arms, legs, shoulders and chest muscles.
