Pilates Testimonials

“I had to amend what I thought I knew about pilates - only for the young and fit. At age 68 I started one-on-one sessions with Marcia. She was able to tailor my pilates program to avoid stress on my bad knees but still provide a good workout. I actually look forward to my bi-weekly sessions.” ~ Colleen B.
What should I Wear?

For Pilates it is desirable to wear comfortable close fitting clothing, ideally lycra is the best material to wear, such as bike pants with a fitting top, or leotards over lycra tights. If you don’t own these, consider your one-piece swimming costume over bike pants! Also please wear thin socks to class (ankle socks are the best).
What Equipment Do You Use?

The Mat – the most popular apparatus in Pilates, the mat is also one of the most challenging. On the mat you are required to do all the work yourself, fighting against gravity without any help from props or equipment. The mat is the foundation of all Pilates’ exercises. Mat exercises can be done at home, after you become familiar with them.
Who was Joe Pilates?

Joseph Hubertus Pilates was born in Germany, in 1880. A sickly child who suffered from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever he dedicated his entire life to becoming physically stronger. In his youth, Pilates studied bodybuilding, diving, skiing, gymnastics and yoga.
What is Pilates?

What Pilates IS:
Pilates is a workout.
Pilates is body-mind conditioning.
Pilates, pronounced Pi-LAH-teez, is a low-stress method of physical and mental conditioning. The Pilates method is the result of Joseph Pilates’ lifelong observation of the human body and its natural functioning. He called his system “CONTROLOGY”, which he defined as “the science and art of coordinated body-mind-spirit development through natural movements under strict control of the will”.
